How do I get lights on the trailer?

If you need a 7-pin adapter, first install the adapter by opening the adapter cover and attaching it to the power cord.

You fit the cable to the car by clicking it in and twisting it into place. Please do not twist it in and out with force as this will break the adapter.

To check if the light is working, turn on your emergency flasher, and get out of the car and check that the lights are working properly.

Issues with the lights?

When testing the lights on the trailer, always make sure the lights are switched to manual. Automatic dimming can make the electrics go haywire.

If the indicators are reversed, turn the plug 180 degrees.

If any of the bulbs aren’t working, start by checking whether the plugs are clean and free of dirt. Remember to check the car plugs as well.

The pins inside the plug are supposed to swivel, so make sure the plastic tap is positioned as below.

Incorrect placement of the pins creates errors on the light, and makes fitting the 7-pin adaptor difficult. This could result in lights failing to turn on.

You can use a screwdriver, or a hardened key, to twist the plastic tap back into place.

Using the adaptor?

When using the adaptor, the reverse light won’t work. It is not a legal requirement for using the trailer.

If you are experiencing trouble getting all the other lights to turn on when using the adaptor, it’s usually due to the gap of the four male plug having been squeezed together.

Gently try to pry the pins further apart, using a screwdriver or perhaps a key. This should result in a better connection.

Missing adaptor?

Our power cables have 13-pins and the adaptors have 7 pins. Both are standard issue on all our Freetrailers.

If the adaptor is missing, please take note in our app when picking up.

If the adaptor is missing and you need it, please call customer service, and we’ll see if we can switch you to a different trailer.
