You don’t need a special drivers license to drive with most of our trailers – just a normal driver licenses that allows you to drive cars will do. Carefully read further for the specific rules and exceptions. This should answer your question “can i drive with a trailer?”.
A B-license entitles you to drive a trailer with a total weight of up to 750 kg. Of course, this requires that the car is approved to tow the trailer’s total weight.
Note that in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands, all our trailers are equipped with (inertia) brakes.
In Germany, some freetrailers currently aren’t equipped with inertia brakes. You may still use and drive these trailers with a B-license since they are limited to a total weight of 750 KG. To see how much weight your car is allowed to tow, check the car’s registration certificate for load with an “ungebremster Anhänger” (trailer without brakes).
NOTE: Are you renting a 2-axle/boogie trailer?
A 2-axle trailer has a weight limit of 1300 kg. If you only have a B licence, the total weight of the car and trailer must not exceed 3,500 kg. With a full trailer, your car must therefore weigh less than 2300 kg. The vast majority of cars do. But please check your car’s registration certificate to find out and make sure the total weight doesn’t exceed the legal limit.
If you have a B+ licence, you can drive with a higher total weight.
